Missouri Valley Community School District is partnering with Hope Squad, LLC to bring a peer-to-peer suicide prevention program to our schools. The program seeks to reduce youth suicide through education, training, and peer intervention. Missouri Valley is the first school district in Iowa to partner with Hope Squad. The overall mission and vision of the program is to prevent suicide through public awareness and education, reduce stigma, and serve as a resource to those touched by suicide.
Hope Squad members are nominated by their peers and chosen because they are good listeners, advocate for others, and try to reduce social isolation by noticing and including peers. Missouri Valley Hope Squad members and their parents attended the inaugural Hope Squad parent meeting on October 6th. 35 students and their parents attended the meeting! The Program looks forward to breaking down barriers to mental health and creating a safer and more inclusive place for students!
