Sixth Graders Finish 6th Place in Math Bee
Sixth Grade Earns 6th place at Math Bee
Five of the best math students in sixth-grade tackled some tough math problems during the first annual Southwest Iowa Math Bee Jamboree on April 19th. The students took a series of timed, individual written tests on open-ended tasks, patterns and functions; estimation and number sense; geometry and measurement; ratio, proportion and percentage; and probability and statistics. At the end of the competition, the students "put their heads together" and worked in as a team to solve the last portion of the test. Some other schools in the area that participated in the math bee were Treynor, Logan-Magnolia, AHST, Underwood, Woodbine, West Harrison, Tri-Center. Altogether, there were 19 teams. The Missouri Valley team consisted of Cailynn Gilpin, Dylan Endriss, Dylan Evans, Sarah Dillinger, and an alternate, Noah Kirlin. These students worked very hard practicing and that hard work paid off! The Missouri Valley team placed 6th out of the 19 teams. The four main participants each placed in the top 25. Sarah Dillinger placed 12th, Dylan Evans placed 16th, Cailynn Gilpin placed 21st, and Dylan Endriss placed 25th. Noah Kirlin was an alternate, so his score didn’t count; however, he did very well too. Congratulations to you all! Keep up the great work!
