2009-2010 SENIOR COLLEGE PLANNING LIST
|
AUGUST – SEPTEMBER
|
- Check your transcript/credits to make sure you are on track for graduation
- If needed, make changes to your schedule with Mrs. Justesen during the first 4 days of school.
- Check with Mrs. Justesen to make sure you have a college entrance exam score on file (i.e. ACT or SAT if you plan to attend a 4-year college or COMPASS if you plan to attend a community college.
- Sign-up for a meeting with Mrs. Justesen to discuss your plans after high school.
- Attend college rep visits in the high school conference room
- Schedule college campus visits.
- Check for Senior Bulletins
- Research information on admissions requirements, scholarships/financial aid, housing, and majors/minors offered by the colleges that you are considering.
- Start working on college applications
- Search for scholarships
- Attend the Denison College Fair

OCTOBER
|
- Class meeting to determine graduation announcement, colors, and flowers
- Go on college campus visits
- Work on narrowing down your college choices
- Submit college applications
- Apply for scholarships
- Make contact with the people writing recommendation letters for you so they don’t feel rushed
- Take the ACT or SAT if you have not already or if you want to increase your score

NOVEMBER
|
- Attend Financial Aid Night
- Order graduation cap & gown and announcements
- Complete college applications by Thanksgiving Break
- Apply for scholarships
|
DECEMBER – JANUARY
|
- Submit your completed FAFSA to the processor as soon as possible after January 1, 2010. File electronically at www.fafsa.ed.gov
- Ask Mrs. Justesen to send your first semester transcripts to your top colleges
- Review your transcript/schedule
- Apply for scholarships
- Take the ACT or SAT if you have not already or if you want to increase your score

FEBRUARY
|
- Submit local scholarship applications.
- Continue working to complete scholarship applications and financial aid information
- Meet with Mrs. Justesen to discuss final plans after high school.

MARCH - APRIL
|
- Universal Scholarship applications due March 1st to Mrs. Justesen
- Review your Student Aid Report (SAR), which is the result of your FAFSA being processed. If you have not received your SAR within 4 weeks, call 1-800-4FED-AID. You can also check your status on their website if you saved your PIN number.
- Apply for housing
- Continue applying for scholarships. These are extremely busy months for scholarship applications.

MAY
|
- Inform the counselor of any scholarships and awards received for recognition at Honor’s Day
- Graduation: May 16
- Complete your final high school transcript request form
- Notify all other colleges to remove your application from their active files
- Send a thank you note for each scholarship received
