For the past six weeks the Health Science students have been studying both in class and out of class to prepare themselves the for State HOSA competition. Studying individually, late nights at the school, going to different classes to rehearse their speeches, and taking all the notes has finally paid off. The Missouri Valley High School HOSA Chapter did very well this past week in Des Moines competing against the other HOSA Chapters throughout the state of Iowa. This is the first year that the entire chapter from Missouri Valley has made it to Nationals. Mrs. Fichter was also awarded with advisor of the year.
We were all very busy while in Des Moines, but it was a lot of fun and an excellent experience. We had two HOSA Bowl teams competing, the first team including Hannah Green, Whitney Ruffcorn, Jessica Jones, and Kelsey Miller placed 2nd. Our second team including Drew Leapley, Aubrey Sertterh, JD Bezrutczyk, and Kaylee Frederick placed 3rd. Whitney Ruffcorn placed 2nd in Concepts of Health care. Casey Charbonneau and Brittany Nordby placed 1st in EMT. In Medical Terminology Jessica Jones placed 2nd and Drew Leapley placed 3rd. JD Bezrutczyk placed 4th in Medical Photography. In Medical Spelling Kaylee Frederick placed 1st and Baiba Ferguson placed 3rd. Alyssa Laymon and Cheyanne Young placed 1st in Career Health Display. In Dental Terminology Kelsey Miller placed 1st and Cheyanne Young placed 4th. Nick Monzu placed 2nd in Pathophysiology. Allie Popejoy placed 2nd in Job Seeking Skills. We are extremely proud of all the HOSA students and wish them the best of luck in Tennessee at Nationals this summer.
The students will be fundraising to help pay their way to the National Leadership Conference. Any donations you would like to give would be greatly appreciated. To donate please contact Dawn Fichter at 6242-4149.
