Create a Country

During the coming week, May. 12th - 19th, 2008, students in the 7th grade will be participating in a project where they will need to create their own country. Students must consider the four key components of Geography (People, Climate, Land, and Economy) as they develop their countries. Students will be working in small groups to complete several possible options within this project. An informational brochure, powerpoint presentation, commercial (acted out or video taped), factbook page or some other creative way to share details of their new country will be available options for the students to consider. Students will create a map and a flag of their country. Naming the country, the cities and the main landmarks/landforms will be the responsibility of the students as well. Cultural elements will need to be considered within the "people" category. I look forward to facilitating this project and to the amazing projects that I will get to evaluate in the coming weeks.
