Missouri Valley Schools part of South West Iowa Physical Education Grant

In 2006 Missouri Valley's Physical Education Department became part of a 13 school consortium applying for a federal grant from the Carol White Foundation. Although denied in the initial year of application, the consortium was able to secure the grant this last year. The Southwest Iowa schools applied for and received the grant with the help of Area Education Agency 13 of Council Bluffs. Elementary Principal Bill Huggett and Elementary Physical Education teacher Barb Liljedahl initiated Missouri Valley's involvement in the consortium. Phycical Education teachers Barb Liljedahl, Karen Breyfogle, Chuck Earleywine, and Adam Cox were all involved in the grant writing process.
For the Missouri Valley Physical Education Department's effort and involvement the school received $21,000.00 to be spent on equipment and teacher education to help our students become more physically fit. Much new equipment has been purchased and implemented into the physical education program.
