South America Project Open House

Greetings all!
Recently the 7th graders hosted family and friends for a viewing of their South American projects. Students welcomed parents, grandparents, and family friends to view the results of their powerpoint presentations and poster presentations about their South American country of their choice. This event was a HUGE success in two main ways. First of all, seeing the adults of the community in my classroom really helped the students to feel that their projects held an importance greater than "just doing my homework." Secondly, the students' projects were much more in depth and more neatly done. I feel that the students really wanted to impress the audience with their presentations and because of this they created documents and presentation boards that had a higher quality than those of previous projects. I feel that it is VERY important to connect the school with the parents and the greater community. This event was able to do this and I fully intend to duplicate this event with our final project. In that project, we will be creating "the perfect country." It will be very interesting to see which parts of which countries students put together to create their "utopias." This project will be completed in May and we will present in the final week of school. Look for an invite sometime in May and on this website as well. Thank you so much for your support this year. Having such active parents has led to a high success rate in terms of work completion and in terms of behavior management. We're three fourths done and it's been a great run so far.
Thank you again,
Mr. Cox :)
