Course Content: This course will consist of an introduction to using the Spanish language and will cover basic communication and grammatical structures. This course will explore cultural aspects of the Spanish-speaking world as well. There will be a focus on expanding the four basic language skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
Course Requirements:Students’ responsibilities will include:
- Class participation.
- Note taking
- Completing Homework
Major Projects:
- 4 Oral Presentations based upon chapter vocabulary and grammar throughout the year. (2 per semester)
Basis For Grading: Your final grade will be determined by:
Quarter grades will consist of:
50% Tests and quizzes. (Tests and quizzes are unannounced).
25% Daily work
25% Participation
- This is based upon 2 important rules:
1. No English may be spoken without raising your hand.
2. Look like you are participating.
- Everyone starts with 100% participation.
- 5 points are deducted for each infraction.
- If you must interrupt class to go to your locker or the restroom it will cost 5 points.
Semester grade will consist of
40% 1st Quarter Grade
40% 2nd Quarter Grade
20% Final Exam
Behavior Guidelines:
- Late homework WILL NOT be accepted. If a student has an excused absence homework may be made up, but must be turned in the following day.
- Come to class prepared. Have your course materials ready. You will not be allowed to leave the classroom to go to your locker.
- Use Spanish only when designated. No English will be allowed during these times, as it will assist you in developing an ability to communicate in Spanish.
- Be respectful of other students and Sr. Jensen. Avoid behavior that prevents others from learning. If Sr. Jensen is speaking then you are not.
- Use of Internet translators to complete assignments is not allowed. This will result in a zero.
