November 2007 News

The first quarter is over and what a great quarter it has been! We had great attendance by parents to conferences with 97% of all parents attending conferences.  We also had 150 students with perfect attendance and 102 students that missed a day or less of school!

This year we will have an Elementary Yearbook and you can put your order in for one for the end of the year.  The cost will be approximately $13.00 and it will be 28 pages long.  Mrs. Clausen, our school nurse, has volunteered to take this on and has been taking pictures of various activities throughout the year already.  Information will be sent home soon.

13 students were Presidential Fitness Challenge winners and there were 51 National Physical Fitness Challenge winners.  The list of winners is posted around the school and will be posted on the Elementary portion of the web site under the Principal news tab.  Way to go students.

ITBS testing is coming up the week of November 5th for 3rd and 5th grade.  For fourth grade it will be the week of November 12.  Your child’s attendance and having a good nights rest will give them the best opportunity to show what they can do.

Attendance is very important to a student’s success.  We are increasing our focus on excused and unexcused absences. I send this information from the Family Handbook given at registration and also posted on our web site.  Please pay particular attention to the information listed below as excused and unexcused absences.

In accordance with School board Policy 503.6, should a student be ill on any given day, the parents are expected to call the school by 9:00 a.m.  If a call is not received by 9:00, the school secretary will attempt to contact the child's parent and all listed contacts to determine whether or not the child is legitimately absent from school.  That day of school will be considered unexcused automatically until a parent contacts the school.  At that time a determination will be made if the absence will be excused or unexcused.

 Examples of an excused absence

1.      Illness, Family emergency, such as severe illness, Family trips approved in advance
 Examples of an unexcused absence

1.   Truancy, suspension, missing the bus, Shopping, hunting, fishing, Family trips not approved in advance
Thank you for your support on October 9 for McTeacher’s Night.  Due to your participation we earned $448.00 to be spent on character education.  Thanks again!!

I sent the information below out earlier this month in an email but felt that it was worth making sure all parents had an opportunity to read my thoughts on school and parent communication.

Respect is what we feel for you and your child.  We try our best and give that to you by phone, by email, or in person.  We understand that your child is your number one priority and respect that.  Please take that into account when speaking with office staff, teachers, or para educators.
We are responsible to the district for many things and simply are trying to do our jobs when we have to contact you about discipline, lunch accounts, health issues, transportation, or need to talk about a concern we may have about your child.   Please keep in mind we simply are trying our best to meet the needs of the kids and follow regulations that we are under and have to follow.

Volunteers are always welcome.  Please contact Cathie Callaghan at kiscal@peoplepc.com or 642-4245 if interested.
