QBASIC Computer Programming Tutorial

 

Course Description

This class is designed to develop the fundamentals of computer programming.  Classes involve writing and editing computer programs in Q-BASIC language, along with reading and completing written homework assignments.  Mathematics concepts are used in the programs, so a math background is necessary.

 

Objectives & Goals

A.             Develop inquiry, programming, and problem-solving skills

B.             Understand and appreciate the career opportunities of industry and computer technology end related fields

C.             Develop a desirable work ethic that is needed for those who work alone or in multiple-person environments

D.            Develop computer, technical reading and math skills

Supplies

A 1" binder is recommended to keeps notes, handouts and homework organized.

A graphing calculator – Math Department recommendation is TI-83, TI-83 Plus, TI-84, or TI-43 Plus

You need to bring your class material and a writing utensil every day to class. 

 

Grade Components

Quarter Grade:

     Homework Assignment 10 pts

     Quiz Score 100 pts

     Test Score 100 pts

           

Semester Grade

     40% - 1st Quarter grade

     40% - 2nd Quarter grade

     20% - Semester test

                

Absences

If you are absent, it is your responsibility to find out what you missed and to get your assignments.  As stated in the student handbook, you have as many days for makeup as you missed.  Pre-excused – You will be required to get your assignments before you are gone. 

 

Work missed due to an unexcused absence will be recorded as a "0".

 

Cheating will not be tolerated.  Anyone caught cheating will receive a “0” for the assignment/test and will also be punished depending on the severity of the issue.

 

Classroom Rules and Expectations

1.     Be respectful of each other.

2.     Please deposit all non-recyclable material in the black garbage can, and all paper products in the blue garbage can.

3.     Please make it your choice to come prepared to class daily. If you make the choice not to do your assignment, I will not give you credit after you turn it in late. Please look over the Academic Non-compliance Policy in your student handbook.

4.     If you are tardy to class, these are the following consequences:

1st tardy – warning

2nd tardy – one office detention

3rd tardy – three office detention

4th tardy – discipline referral

5.     Please be on time to class, I do follow the tardy policy.

6.     Please make it your responsibility and choice to use appropriate language.

7.     Please follow Internet and computer lab rules when using the computers in my classroom.

8.     It is your responsibility to obtain a pass or have your red student planner signed to leave the room every time. If you are not returning, you will need to have your red student planner.

 

MVHS Network Rules

  • No downloading of anything unless a staff member for a class project specially approves it.   This includes music, games, software, etc.
  • No email, chat rooms, instant messaging or related activities will be allowed unless approved by a staff member for a class project.
  • Any use of the network/internet that would violate a policy or rule in the high school is banned.

 

 
 
 

Consequences:

  • 1st non-serious violation: loss of computer privileges for 30 calendar days
  • 2nd non-serious violation: loss of computer privileges for 90 days and removal from any technology class and given an F with no credit
  • 3rd non-serious violation: loss of computer privileges for 120 days and removal from any technology class and given an F with no credit
  • Serious violation: harassment, pornography, breaking the law, or substantial monetary damage; 9-day school suspension; loss of computer privileges for rest of high school career; removal from any technology class and given an F with no credit; reimbursement to school for costs related to incident
