My name is Kenya Straight. I was born in Honduras, Central America. I come from a very large family. Several of my brothers and sisters have also chosen education as a profession. I think that started with my parents, neither of which had the opportunity to go to college. Because my parents did not have that opportunity they both put a great emphasis on education, and made sure that we were all given the chance to attend college. I went to college at Graceland College which is in Lamoni, Iowa. I graduated with a Bachelors degree in elementary education, with concentrations in reading, early childhood, and multi categorical resource mild. I married my college sweetheart and moved to Sioux City. My first teaching job was in Holstein, Iowa where I taught special education for four years. My husband then had the opportunity to take a teaching job in his home town of Logan. We moved to Logan in 2000. I stayed home with my 3 children for 3 years until my oldest went to kindergarten. My husband is now the High School Principal in Boyer Valley, and we have moved again. I now live in Dunlap, IA. This is my 5th year teaching 1st grade, and I love it!!! If you need to contact me you can e-mail me at kstraight@movalley.k12.ia.us or call me at school (642-2279).
