All About Mrs. Cihacek

October 05, 2005

My name is Jennifer Cihacek.  I have been a teacher in the Missouri Valley School District since the fall of 2000.  In 2001 I met my husband, Scott, and we were married in 2002.  On December 17, 2004 we had our first child, Kaydence.  I have one step-daughter, Felecia, who is a Freshman here at Missouri Valley.

Besides teaching, I also collect Box Tops for the Middle School.  We have had a lot of success with our collections this year!  We earned over $1000 with our efforts.

Currently, my reading classes have finished a great project.  Using the "Iowa Teen Award Books" list from 2007-2008, they each read 2 books.  After reading their books, they decided which of the 2 was the best one for their age group.  The students were grouped by the books they chose as the best and then did a presentation to try to get the rest of the class to vote for their book.  Voting has not started yet, so I will update this with the winner!

My 7th grade Personal Development class (2nd Trimester) had a couple of extra days so we made cookies to send to the troops in Iraq.  I hope this activity made them realize how something as simple as a chocolate chip cookie can raise the spirits of those fighting for our freedom.  Here is a picture of our class...

My Past Life...

I grew up near Denison, Iowa and attended Ar-We-Va Community Schools.  From there, I went off to college at Westmar University in LeMars, Iowa.  I transferred the next year to the University of Northern Iowa and graduated with a BA in Family & Consumer Sciences in 1993.  Since then I have obtained my endorsements in Health and Reading.

In 1994, I started my teaching career in Coon Rapids, Iowa at the Coon Rapids-Bayard Community Schools.  I was a teacher for the Crusaders until 1999.  From there I pursued some other job opportunities until I was fortunate to settle here in Missouri Valley in 2000.
