The following scholarships are ones that have been received in the past and there is no guarantee that they will be offered again for this year. I have listed them by the typical month the scholarships are due. Check for exact deadline on the current application when it becomes available. You must continually check the senior bulletin for the most current scholarships received.
OCTOBER
10/31 - Coca-Cola Scholars Program - 50 - National Awards - $20,000. over a 4 yr. period; 100 –
$4,000. over a 4 yr. period. Applicant must be a HS senior; selection based on academic achievement, leadership in school, civic & extra-curricular activities. Apply on line at www.coca-colascholars.org
10/1 -- University of Northern Iowa Presidential Scholars - 15 granted for 4 yrs. of free tuition and room
and board. Applicant must have an ACT of 29 or better and upper 10% of class or 1 of top 5 students in a class of 50 or fewer.
NOVEMBER
11/17 --State of Iowa Scholarship Program - $400 awards - Iowa high school students who graduate
from an Iowa public or nonpublic high school and rank in the upper 15% of the class at the end of their junior year and take the ACT or SAT by October of their senior year. Student must plan to enroll as a full time student at an eligible Iowa community college or university
11/25—University of Nebraska, Lincoln J.D. Edwards Honors Program in Computer Science & Management –
applicants must demonstrate a passion in technology and business; outstanding leadership talent; a composite ACT of 30 or higher; and a 3.5 or higher gpa.
DECEMBER
12/3 -- Iowa State University - College of Agriculture - 18 different scholarships of varying amounts
available to incoming freshman students in the upper 25 % of class and national test scores, with leadership potential and enrolled in agriculture at ISU.
12/14 -- University of Iowa - 50 Presidential scholarships of $28,000 ($7,000 a yr. for 4 yrs) and 70
Dean’s scholarships of $4,000 ($1,000 a yr. for 4 yrs). Students must rank in the top 15% or be among the top 5 of a class fewer than 100 students or have a 3.8 cumulative GPA, present an ACT composite of 30 or above or SAT I of 1290 or above, and apply (or have applied) for admission to the University.
12/20-- Iowa State Association of Counties - Eligibility is limited to children of county officials or
county employees. The applicants must be a senior in high school. The criteria used in awarding the scholarship will be scholastic achievement, financial need, participation in extracurricular/community activities and overall character.
JANUARY
1/23 -- Briar Cliff College - Departmental Scholarships due January 23 - $1000 awards; Presidential
Scholarships due January 23 - full tuition - renewable; Multicultural Scholarship due January 23 - amount varies; Richard L. Doyle Leadership Scholarship due February 6 - $1,000 awards - renewable. Eligibility requirements vary - see counselor if interested.
1/15 -- Buena Vista College -- All competitive scholarship applications are included under one
application form. Students may apply for more than one scholarship. Scholarships awarded for Leadership, Math/Science, Teacher, Pre-Law, Fine Arts. See counselor if interested.
1/16 -- Iowa State University - Forestry Department - There are various scholarships for varying amounts with different eligibility requirements. Priority will be given to students who apply for admission to ISU prior to December 1.
1/15 – Phi Delta Kappa Scholarship – 2 - $250 awards. Applicants must be planning to major in education.
1/6 -- United States JCI Senate Foundation Scholarship Program - $1,000 grants awarded to seniors who plan to attend accredited colleges, universities, or vocational schools on a full-time basis. The number of grants will be at the discretion of the US JCI Senate Foundation.
1/20 -- University of Northern Iowa - College of Behavior Science - 5 full tuition & 10 -1/2 tuition, top 15%, 27 or higher ACT, 1/20 deadline; School of Music - numerous scholarships, 1/23 deadline; Teacher Education Scholarships - 5 full tuition, top 25%, 26 or higher ACT, 1/30 deadline; other numerous scholarships in other departments - to be considered students must be admitted to UNI and complete the New Student Scholarship Application, deadlines vary from January 20 to April 30. See counselor if interested.
1/31 -- VEISHEA, INC. (Iowa State University) - 7 - $500 awards. Based on top 15% of class, ACT of
26 or higher and involved in activities. Students eligible for the VEISHEA are also eligible for the Presidential Leadership Class Scholarship.
1/15 – Walter Scott, Jr. Scholarship ( University of Nebraska, Omaha) –Tuition and Reimbursement
ranging from $3,500 to $8,250 (renewable for 4 years with minimum GPA of 3.2) Must be attending the College of Engineering & Technology (Omaha campus) or the College of Information Science & Technology and meet academic requirements.
FEBRUARY
2/16 -- Cargill Community Scholarship -- 150 - $1,000 awards. Students who are planning to enroll in
a full-time program at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school are eligible. Applicant must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and complete the application form and essay.
2/22 – George W. Loomis, M.D. Health Career Scholarship – student must be pursuing a health related
major/career
2/1 -- Grand Lodge of Iowa Masonic Scholarships - 60- $1,800 awards. All high school seniors are
eligible. The principal criterion is service to school and community with special emphasis upon leadership roles in these areas. An applicant’s academic record, communication skills, and financial need are also considered.
2/1 -- Iowa State Christina Hixson Opportunity Awards - $2500/year for 4 yrs. Challenging personal,
financial hardship.
2/14 -- Knights of Ak-Sar-Ben College Scholarship Program - 8 - $4000 awards, renewable. Rank in
top 1/3 of class and able to demonstrate financial need. Recipients may use the scholarship to attend any accredited four-year college or university in Nebraska or western Iowa (see list of eligible institutions on application).
2/1 -- Knights of Ak-Sar-Ben Ike Friedman Student Leadership Award - Any HS senior in Western
Iowa may apply. The award is to recognize HS seniors who have demonstrated extraordinary leadership. No dollar amount listed.
2/15 -- Lucile Latta Memorial Scholarship - Applicants must be a senior residing in Harrison County
and plan to attend an accredited college or university (includes Bible colleges) or an accredited technical institution. Scholarships may be awarded based on financial need and/or exceptional scholarship.
2/1 -- Morris Scholarship Fund, INC. -- 30 - $1500. awards; Applicants must be of minority ethnic
status, minimum 2.00 gpa; Preference will be given to native Iowans who attend school in Iowa.
2/28- Pizza Hut Scholarship – Applicants must be seniors with a 2.75 or higher gpa; a minimum of 250 hours of
restaurant and foodservice; have been accepted as a full time student in a restaurant or foodservice related post secondary program; and submit a letter of recommendation.
2/1 -- Principal Scholarship Program -- Applicants must be African-American, Hispanic, Asian, or
American Indian and US citizens and residents of Iowa. Recipients selected based on: gpa 2.5 or above or 2.8 if already in college, community and extracurricular involvement and leadership, recommendations, financial need, and personal interview for finalists.
2/15 -- Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship Competition - up to $1500 awards. Recipients are chosen on
merit, not financial need. GPA, ACT/SAT score, work experience, community and school involvement, and a written statement of future goals will be considered in the selection process.
2/28 -- Vision Concepts, INC. - $10,000 awards. Students who have demonstrated scholastic
excellence, intellectual potential, personal integrity, and an interest in Engineering may apply. Student needs an ave. GPA of 2.0 or higher and an ACT score in the high 20’s.
2/1 -- Wayne State College - All HS seniors interested in Wayne may apply for the numerous
scholarships available. Only one scholarship application form is required. They have established Dec. 1 as the priority deadline for scholarship applications but the final deadline is Feb. 1.
MARCH
3/15 -- Beta Sigma Psi Merit Scholarship - 2 -$500 awards to current Lutheran-Christian males who
will be incoming freshmen at Iowa State University. Applicants will be judged on scholastic achievement and activity participation.
3/1 – Harrison County Soil and Water Conservation Scholarship – 1st-$1000, 2nd-$500, 3rd-$300 awards.
Applicant must be pursuing a major in any field of agriculture or natural resources.
3/20 -- Iowa Automobile Dealers Foundation - 10 - $1000.; Applicant must be committed to pursuing
automotive-related studies; an employee of a new car or truck dealership; and demonstrate a financial need.
3/1 – Iowa Farm Bureau Federation Scholarship - 54 - $1000. awards. Applicant must apply in the county where
their (parents) Farm Bureau membership is held; must be accepted in an accredited 2 or 4 year college.
3/1 – Iowa Newspaper Foundation - $1000 award. Applicant must be an Iowa resident preparing for a newspaper
career at an Iowa college or university.
3/20 -- Knights of Ak-Sar-Ben Community College Scholarship - 12 - $1000 awards. Applicants must
be Heartland residents (Nebraska and western Iowa) who need financial help to realize their potential. Each application will be considered based on academic achievement, financial need, personal motivation and leadership potential. Recipients must attend one of the community colleges in the Ak-Sar-Ben region (see list of eligible colleges on application form).
3/31 - Learning Disabilities Association of Iowa Scholarship Program - 2 - $1000. awards; applicant
must have a documented learning disability and planning to pursue a post-secondary education at an accredited institution which provides a two or four year college program or vocational training.
3/31 – Mediacom World Class Scholarship – over 30 - $1000 awards. Applicants must be a graduating senior
from Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota, or Wisconsin.
3/22 – Theatre Arts Guild, Inc. - $1000 award. Applicant must be interested in pursing the theatre arts at a
college, university, or school of drama.
3/1 -- University of Nebraska at Omaha – Fine Arts Department Music Scholarship (see guidance counselor)
3/13 -- University of Northern Iowa Art Scholarship Competition Day - awards of full-time, 4- year art scholarships. Applicant must be a HS senior acceptable for admission to UNI. Scholarships
will be awarded on the basis of a review of the applicant’s art work and the scholarship application materials.
3/6 -- University of Northern Iowa - Hugh F. Seabury Scholarships - several awards include 25% of
tuition for first 2 semesters and 75% of tuition for the next 6 semesters provided the recipient maintains an acceptable level of performance in a program of study which leads to a degree in elementary or secondary teaching. Admission to the University must have been granted prior to application for this scholarship.
3/2 -- University of Northern Iowa - Stever Scholarship - $1000 awards (renewable). Applicants must
be incoming freshmen who will be pursuing Physical Education as a major. They must also be in the top 10% of the class and have a HS GPA of at least 3.5. There are several other scholarships listed in the Physical Education Division. See counselor if interested.
3/15 – Velda R. Currie Endowed Scholarship – 10 awards ranging from $1000 to $1500. Applicant must be
pursuing a 2 year vocational/technical degree or certified program. This scholarship is renewable but recipients must reapply.
3/15 – Wubbena C. Rand Endowed Scholarship – awards range from $1000 to $1250. Applicant must plan on
entering the medical/health field. This scholarship is renewable for the second year but recipients must reapply.
APRIL
4/15 -- ACACIA Leadership Scholarship - $1000 awards. This scholarship is available to any male HS
senior who will be attending Iowa State University, University of Nebraska at Lincoln, or the University of Iowa. The scholarship is awarded by either the local chapter of ACACIA Fraternity or the local Corporate Board of Alumni of the Fraternity. The scholarship does not require that the recipient be a member of the Fraternity, and financial need is not a criteria. Some basic academic information will be required, along with your response to an essay question.
4/12 -- Alegent Health Community Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Scholarships - 2-$500, 4-$1000 (the
$500 awards are for students in a one or two year program); Applicants must live or be attending a school in Harrison County and been accepted by an accredited institution for a program of study in the health career field.
4/21 – Alegent Health Career Education Scholarship (Council Bluffs/Omaha) – 7 - $3000 awards. Applicants must be pursuing an education in a health related field. Criteria for selection includes the following: financial need, academic performance, and letters of recommendation. Applicants must also submit a copy of their Student Aid Report.
4/1 -- American Cancer Society Scholarship program for cancer survivors - $1000. award; You are
eligible to apply if you: were diagnosed with cancer before the age of 21 and currently under 21; legal resident of Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota or Wisconsin for at least one year; accepted to an accredited 2 or 4 University or Voc/Tech School; and maintenance of above average grade point level.
4/19 -- American Legion Auxiliary, Harrison County - $100. Open to all seniors in Harrison County;
applicant must be a relative of an American Legion or Auxiliary Member.
4/10 – Chevrolet Classics Club Scholarship – 3- $500 awards. Applicant must be planning to attend a community
college, accredited vocational school, college or university pursuing studies related to the automotive industry.
4/15 -- Easter Seal Society of Iowa - 1 - $1000, 1 - $750. Must have a disability, top 40% of class.
4/15 – Eastern Nebraska/Western Iowa Car Council’s Paul High Memorial Scholarship – up to 4- $300 awards.
Applicant must be planning to attend an automotive technology program at an accredited trade school, community college, college, or university.
4/25 – Harrison Cty Cattleman’s Association (Jerry Hull Memorial Scholarship) – 2 - $500 awards. Applicant
must be planning to study in the field of agriculture at a two or four year institution.
4/25—Head Start Scholarship (West Central Development Corporation) – 1 - $150 award to a graduating senior who attended one of the Head Start Centers. The scholarship may be used for an accredited technical, 2 year, or 4 year post secondary program.
4/3 -- Iowa Association of Building Officials - 2 - $500 awards. Applicants must be an Iowa resident,
graduate or GED, and obtain admittance to one of the eligible programs (see application form). The list of majors include: architectural drafting, construction engineering, and other building trades.
4/1 -- Iowa Broadcasters Association Scholarship – awards up to $3000 per year. Applicant must be planning to enroll full-time in the broadcasting program at an Iowa 2 or 4 year college or university.
4/2 -- Iowa West Foundation - $5,000 awards renewable for up to 4 years; Applicant must be a senior
with an ACT score of at least 25 and be enrolled in a four-year program, leading to a baccalaureate degree.
4/15 -- John Culver Scholarship (Sponsored by the Iowa Democratic Party) 1 - $1500 & 1 - $1000 award. Applicants must plan to attend any public or private, two or four year post-secondary institution in the State of Iowa during the following academic year. Preference shall be shown to those who have demonstrated financial need and academic excellence.
4/30 - Lutheran Brotherhood - 1 - $500. award for Lutheran students. Write essay about self and what
you plan to do with your education.
4/10 -- Metro Omaha Chapter Oncology Nursing Society - Applicant must be a senior pursuing their education in the field of nursing.
4/24—Omaha Chapter of the Association of Information Technology Professional Scholarship – several $1000 awards to help further the information technology education of people in the Omaha, Eastern Nebraska and Western Iowa region. Applications are available on the web site www.aitpomaha.com
MAY
5/3 – Council Bluffs Building Trades – 5 - $1000 awards to students who will be or are presently attending a trade school, 2 year, or 4 year college and majoring in or studying an area that would relate to the building trades. Examples: engineering, business, finance, real estate, or study of any of the trades.
5/23 – Darryl Jahn Memorial Scholarship – 2 - $750 awards to Lutheran gentlemen entering Iowa State. Applicants will be evaluated on their scholastic achievement and active participation in their communities and churches.
5/1 -- Governor’s Iowa State Fair Scholarship - 4 - $1000 awards to 2 males and 2 females. Applicants
must have actively participated at the Iowa State Fair, be a graduating senior from an Iowa high school, and plan to enroll at an Iowa college or university.
5/1 -- Great Clips for Hair - 5 - $300. awards for individuals interested in pursuing a career in
cosmetology or barbering. These scholarships can be used at any accredited cosmetology or barbering school in Iowa.
5/28 - Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity - Nile C. Kinnick Freshman Scholarship - 1 -$500. and 2 - $250. awards.
Applicants must be male; planning to attend the University of Iowa; and have been involved in extra-curricular activities throughout high school. (by applying for this scholarship, you do not commit yourself to membership in the Phi Psi or any other organization)
5/10 – Robert D. Blue Scholarship – Applicant must be someone who has spent the majority of their life in Iowa.
Applicant must write a 500 word essay on a predetermined topic.
5/1 -- The Pearl Hull Falk Scholarship - $400.00 awards; Applicant must be of the Protestant faith; a
resident of the State of Iowa; a full time student at the University of Iowa; and a needy and worthy student of good character and scholastic record.
JUNE
6/30 -- William & Elsie Bandow Scholarship - amount varies, awarded annually. Applicants must be a
resident of Crawford, Carroll, Sac, Ida, Monona, Harrison or Shelby County; be interested in seminary or parochial school teacher - Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod. In the event there are no qualified applicants, the selection committee shall provide these scholarships to any qualified person who desires to attend college.
JULY
7/1 -- Future Leader Scholarship - 3 - $250 awards. Applicants must be a freshman male enrolled at
Iowa State with a GPA greater than 2.8.

IT IS AN EXCELLENT IDEA TO REQUEST SPECIFIC SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION AND APPLICATIONS FROM EACH COLLEGE YOU APPLY TO.
