2007-08 SENIOR CALENDAR
AUGUST – SEPTEMBER
- Review your transcript/credits to make sure you are on track for graduation
- Check with Miss Urban to make sure you have a standardized test score on file (ACT Spring of Junior year or sign up for Fall/Winter of senior year or sign up for ASSET Test for Community Colleges)
- Meet with the High School Counselor, Miss Urban, to discuss future plans
- Talk with college representatives who visit the high school (obtain a pass from Miss Urban)
- Plan a college visit(s). See Miss Urban for assistance in scheduling and to obtain a pass for an excused absence. Seniors are allowed 3 college visit days for the school year.
- Check your locker for Senior Bulletins
- College fair at Denison for all Seniors on September 27
- September 21 registration deadline for the October 27 ACT test in Missouri Valley
OCTOBER
- Attend college fairs and college visitation days
- Class meeting to determine graduation announcement, colors, and flowers
- Plan a college visit(s). Try to visit at least two or three for comparisons
- Begin filling out applications. Most colleges request that you submit the following: an application (with fee), standardized test scores, high school transcript, and possibly recommendation letters or an essay.
- Make contact with the people writing recommendation letters for you so they don’t feel rushed Many schools have specific forms or topics they want included in the recommendation. Request these early.
- October 5 late registration deadline for the October 27 ACT (additional $19 late fee)
NOVEMBER
- Attend the Parent Financial Aid Meeting Thursday, November 8 at 7pm in the high school cafeteria
- Order graduation cap & gown and announcements
- Complete college applications by Thanksgiving Break. You may apply to more than one college. PAY ATTENTION TO DEADLINES!
- November 2 registration deadline for December 8 ACT test in Missouri Valley
- November 15 late registration deadline for the December 8 ACT (additional $19 late fee)
DECEMBER – JANUARY
- Senior biography and composite due December 14
- Continue working to complete applications
- Remember – it is very important for parents to have their income tax figured as early as possible. Some colleges allow parents to use estimates based on last year’s taxes, but no federal loans or grants will be granted until taxes are completed. The sooner you can submit your FAFSA form after January 1, the more likely you’ll be listed higher on the list. Much of the federal aid is first come, first receive. Make sure you list the colleges where you want the financial info sent. (Miss Urban has the code book.)

- January 4 registration deadline for February 9 ACT test in Missouri Valley
- January 18 late registration deadline for Feb. 9 ACT (additional $19 late fee)
FEBRUARY
- Universal Scholarship applications available on the Missouri Valley website under “Counseling Department”
- Visit the college of your choice. Schedule interviews if the college requires this
- Continue working to complete scholarship applications and financial aid information
MARCH - APRIL
- Universal Scholarship applications due March 1st to Miss Urban
- Review your Student Aid Report (SAR), which is the result of your FAFSA being processed. If you have not received your SAR within 4 weeks, call 1-800-4FED-AID. You can also check your status on their website if you saved your PIN number.
- Apply for housing
- Continue applying for scholarships. These are extremely busy months for scholarship applications.
- ASSET test for community college students administered by IWCC-no fee
- March 7 registration deadline for April 12 ACT test in Missouri Valley
- March 21 late registration deadline for April 12 ACT (additional $19 late fee)
MAY
- Inform the counselor of any scholarships and awards received for recognition at Honor’s Day
- Baccalaureate: May 11
- Honor’s Day & mandatory graduation practice: May 15
- Graduation: May 18
- Complete your final high school transcript request form
- Notify all other colleges to remove your application from their active files
- Send a thank you note for each scholarship received
- May 9 registration deadline for June 14 ACT test (NOT in Missouri Valley)
- May 23 late registration deadline for June 14 ACT (additional $19 late fee)
